Firms making moves included Blaney McMurtry, DLA Piper, McCarthy Tétrault and Minden Gross
Blaney McMurtry LLP
The Toronto-based firm has three new partners:
- Stephen Gaudreau – commercial litigation
- Ryan Kniznik – family law
- Hasan Naqvi – corporate and commercial
DLA Piper (Canada) LLP
The firm has one new partner, Michael E. Reid, who is based in Vancouver. He focuses his practice on technology-related business law, particularly corporate, commercial and information technology matters.
Robert Seidel, the firm’s managing partner in Canada, said that Reid is “widely-recognized for his expertise working with companies in the information technology, gaming and entertainment sectors.”
The firm also appointed Bonnie-Louise Lussier as director of associate lawyer and student development. She is also based in Vancouver. In this role, she will recruit summer and articling students for the firm’s Canadian offices and advance the professional development of associate lawyers.
Dan MacDougall, chief operating officer for strategic development and recruiting, commended her for “her deep understanding of the legal recruitment market as well as her genuine passion for the legal professional development space.”
Jensen Shawa Solomon Duguid Hawkes LLP
Andrew Wilson has been appointed managing partner of the Calgary -based litigation firm. Wilson focuses his practice on complex commercial and securities litigation, class actions and administrative law.
McCarthy Tétrault LLP
The firm has two new equity partners:
- Casey Halladay (Toronto) – competition/antitrust and foreign investment
- Hartley Lefton (Toronto) – financial services
Jason Gudofsky, who chairs the firm’s competition/antitrust and foreign investment group, said that Halladay could help clients with his “clear and thoughtful advice, breaking down legal complexities and being a passionate advocate on behalf of our clients.”
Marc MacMullin, head of the firm’s national financial services group, said that Lefton could offer clients his “diligence, resourcefulness and experience within the insurance space.”
Minden Gross LLP
The Toronto-based firm has four new partners:
- Benjamin Bloom – mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, general commercial matters
- Eli Kutner – commercial real estate
- Benjamin Radcliffe – commercial leasing
- Enzo Sallese – commercial real estate and financial services
MLT Aikins LLP
The firm has announced that Naheed Bardai, who was a partner in the firm’s Saskatoon office and a member of the firm’s commercial litigation group, has been appointed a judge at the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan.
Ogletree Deakins International LLP
Michael Comartin, a partner based in the firm’s Toronto office, has been elected shareholder at the firm. Comartin focuses his practice on employment law, labour law, privacy, wage and hours issues, human rights, accessibility, employee benefits and executive compensation.
