Firms making moves included Conway Baxter Wilson, Dentons, Gowling WLG, Harrison Pensa and Osler
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions and departures.
Conway Baxter Wilson LLP
Natalia Rodriguez has joined the Ottawa-based firm as partner. Rodriguez centres her practice on civil litigation and dispute resolution, with a focus on public law litigation, appellate advocacy and commercial litigation.
Dentons Canada LLP
The firm has appointed one new partner, Ron Dueck, who is based in the firm’s Vancouver office. A member of the firm’s tax group, Dueck has advised private and public businesses on tax planning matters, especially in relation to reorganizations, acquisitions, divestitures, capital markets, cross-border investment and inbound and outbound expansion.
John Sandrelli, managing partner of the Vancouver office, welcomed Dueck in a news release from the firm. “His growing profile in the tax sector, coupled with his depth of knowledge and experience in tax planning, will be a significant asset to our clients,” Sandrelli said.
Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP
The firm has appointed two partners: Jennifer Jannuska and Omar Nassif. Both new additions have joined the firm’s intellectual property group and are based in the Toronto office.
Jannuska has a background with difficult and non-traditional patents and industrial designs, while Nassif has experience with patent applications across a wide variety of industries.
Mark Ledwell, managing partner of the Toronto office, said that the firm looked forward to working with the two new partners, who “come to the firm with sophisticated technical knowledge spanning an array of established and burgeoning sectors.”
Hansell McLaughlin Advisory Group
Hansell LLP, which is based in Toronto, welcomes new partner Eric Morgan. His practice centres on corporate governance and dispute resolution.
Harrison Pensa LLP
Former partner Jon Foreman has left the firm to open his own practice, Foreman & Company. The new class actions firm is based in London, Ontario.
“Our firm’s relationship with Jon remains strong as he launches his new practice and we are confident that our two firms will persist in moving the needle in class action litigation,” said Adam Jean, the firm’s chief operating officer, in the news release congratulating Foreman on his new endeavour.
Lax O'Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb LLP
The independent litigation firm said in a news release that it had appointed six new partners over the past year, who are the following:

Miller Thomson LLP
The firm has three new partners, who are all based in the Toronto office:

The firm has 11 new partners:

Stewart McKelvey
The firm has appointed Maureen Ryan, a partner based in St. John’s, N.L., as chairperson of the firm’s partnership board. Ryan’s practice focuses on commercial transactions.
