Smart materials and photonics company, Metamaterial Inc., has appointed business, media and entertainment lawyer Mark Gosine as corporate secretary.

Gosine has extensive in-house experience as general counsel and corporate secretary. His areas of focus include corporate strategy, commercial transactions, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions.

Gosine has worked for media company WildBrain, where he led the company’s legal and business affairs and participated in various transactions, valued at $1.2 billion in total, which significantly helped in expanding the business. He also previously served as executive vice-president for legal affairs and general counsel and corporate secretary of DHX Media Ltd.

Gosine obtained his law degree from Dalhousie University, where he later taught entertainment law as part-time faculty. He also worked for the firm of Cassidy Nearing Berryman, which eventually joined Cox and Palmer, as well as for Nova Scotia Legal Aid and Dalhousie Legal Aid.

Gosine presently serves in leadership roles at the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University and Symphony Nova Scotia.

Based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Metamaterial Inc. designs, develops and manufactures products used in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical and consumer electronics. It also has offices in London, U.K. and in California, U.S.

In the same news release welcoming Gosine to Metamaterial, the company also announced the appointment of Keith Abriel as interim chief financial officer.

“Having worked in rapid growth environments, Keith and Mark bring tremendous experience to our executive leadership team,” said George Palikaras, the company’s president and chief executive officer.
