Canadian Association of Black Lawyers among organizations receiving funding from TD Bank Group

The TD Bank Group has set aside $4 million to support Black-led and Black-focused organizations and initiatives in Canada and in the U.S., including the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.

This is part of the efforts of the TD Bank Group’s Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council in supporting the development of the Black and diverse communities that it serves.

“It is our responsibility, as one of Canada’s largest corporations, to help open new opportunity and level an uneven playing field,” said Norie Campbell, group head and chairperson of the Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council.

The multinational corporation intends for this allocation to assist in dealing with the effects of anti-Black racism, in promoting Black talent and Black representation in key professions, in increasing business and leadership opportunities for Black individuals and in securing a future where every person can prosper.

In Canada, the funding will also benefit the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals and the Canadian Association of Black Journalists. The corporation will also sponsor the Canadian Art magazine’s first edition to feature Black Canadian artists and writers exclusively.

The TD Bank Group consists of the Toronto-Dominion Bank and its subsidiaries. Its main office is in Toronto. Naki Osutei and Shelley Sylva, heads of the corporation’s community impact teams in Canada and in the U.S., helped in choosing the targets for funding.
