Dentons launches information hub to assist general counsel in strategic planning

Dentons has created the New Dynamic, an information hub to help general counsel and in-house legal teams as they navigate the unknown.

General counsel and in-house lawyers can utilize the information to plan their strategy for the next 12 months and beyond. The New Dynamic shares global insights, articles, webinars, legal toolkits and trackers spanning a wide array of relevant topics applicable to the firm’s 76 different countries.

The hub includes guidance on how to progress a digital strategy and on how to deal with supply chain resilience issues and environment, social and governance performance opportunities. Other resources pertain to scenario planning, quick pivots potentially beneficial to GCs, the value of taking time out to reflect on one’s leadership skills and lessons learned from South Korea.

One article posted on the hub gives tips on how to lead an in-house legal team using the core elements of sound judgment and connection. Connection, in turn, has three key elements, which are understanding, reliability and communication.

The article said that understanding may be improved by asking open questions and then asking follow-up questions, or by proactively connecting with team members with whom one has not spent time. Reliability, on the other hand, may be boosted by maintaining visibility, such as through one’s digital presence. Lastly, communication can be enhanced by staying honest despite not having all the answers.

“Navigating out of the current pandemic, including the resulting economic impact and organizational challenges, will require us to build trust with those we lead in new ways,” stated the article.

The article also sheds light on robust executive decision making, which may benefit from really understanding what the organization wants, canvassing the in-house legal team’s views, leveraging law firm relationships, asking for perspective from trusted peers, and finding the right mentor for the moment, preferably one who has experience weathering a crisis.

The article titled “Leading your in-house legal team” was authored by Jay Connolly, the firm’s global chief talent officer, and Judith Prime, the firm’s global client development director.

Dentons developed the information hub with input from over 60 legal tech and operations specialists and former GCs.
