Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures and other announcements.
Cain Lamarre LLP
The Quebec-based firm announced that five new lawyers have joined, who are the following:
- Kevin Coutu — Aboriginal and constitutional law, transportation law and litigation
- Émilie Vanier — administrative law and labour and employment law
- Alexandre Gauthier — transportation law, administrative law and penal law
- Maude Beaudin-Bruyère — litigation and personal and family law
- Marie-Ève Turgeon — penal law
Lawson Lundell LLP
The firm congratulated Grant Vogeli for his election as one of the Benchers for the Law Society of Alberta. He will serve for a three-year term starting Feb. 25, 2021. Vogeli is a Calgary-based partner at the firm and a corporate and commercial litigator.

Norton Rose Fulbright
The firm has appointed Richard Krumholz as global head of litigation and disputes. A member of the firm’s global executive committee, Krumholz is experienced in the areas of litigation and disputes; securities litigation, regulation and enforcement; and class actions in the sectors of energy, financial institutions and life sciences and healthcare.
Krumholz replaces Gerry Pecht, who has been elected as global chief executive. In the news release, Pecht described Krumholz as one who “understands and embraces the client-focused commitment and strategies the firm has always embodied, and the collaboration that is critically important to managing our world-leading practice.”
“I look forward to working with our partners across the globe to build on our successes,” said Krumholz in the news release.
Thornton Grout Finnigan LLP
The firm announced that Robert Thornton is the new president of the Insolvency Institute of Canada. He will serve for a two-year period in this new role, effective Oct. 8. He is a founder at the firm who is experienced in the field of insolvency and restructuring.
