Candice Alderson brings experience in legal matters, finance matters and major project management
Artemis Gold Inc., a Vancouver-headquartered gold development company, has appointed lawyer Candice Alderson as senior vice president, corporate affairs, effective Feb. 15. She will assist in executing the company’s strategy relating to stakeholder and government affairs.
Alderson, based in the company’s Vancouver office, is also tasked with managing key relationships and contracts for the company’s Blackwater Gold Project. She is equipped with experience in legal matters, finance matters and major project management.
“Her very relevant experience, particularly in the construction and development space, will be invaluable as we work to advance the Blackwater project and its associated infrastructure, secure construction & key supply contracts working with our partners in preparation for a start of construction in Q2 2022,” said Steven Dean, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, in the news release.
Alderson has served as senior vice president, infrastructure investments for the Ledcor Group of Companies, during which time she worked within numerous business units of the conglomerate, oversaw acquisitions and other general corporate matters and devoted efforts to the conglomerate’s Inclusion and Diversity Committee.
Alderson joined Ledcor as corporate counsel and eventually went on to help in establishing a telecoms install/repair division; to negotiate franchise agreements and, as lead counsel, a joint venture with a public power company; to draft regulatory reports; to secure property rights, funding and subsidies; to advise a new ventures division on partnerships and acquisitions as a member of Ledcor’s diversification strategy team; and to assist in fostering mentoring relationships as a member of Ledcor’s leadership committee.
Alderson has also worked as an in-house lawyer at Ballard Power Systems and as a lawyer at Lang Michener LLP, where she handled complex corporate reorganizations. She earned her LLB from the University of Victoria. In 2010, she was distinguished as one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars — Leading Lawyers Under 40.
Alderson has served as a member of the Canadian Infrastructure Law Forum Organizing Committee and of various national and B.C. committees at the Canadian Bar Association, as well as a mentor for the Women’s Lawyers Forum mentorship program at CBA in B.C. She was also active at the Vancouver Bar Association, where she assisted in advancing the association’s commitment to donate essential funds to designated charities.
