Nine law firms made new announcements
Bennett Jones LLP
Sergio Custodio joined the firm as a partner in the Vancouver office.
Custodio has broad experience handling business matters involving real estate, commercial transactions, financing, infrastructure, and acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and assets. He provides transactional advice to clients across the transportation, hospitality, healthcare, education, and technology sectors.
Borden Ladner Gervais LLP
The firm welcomed Tim McCormick as a partner in the Toronto office’s national corporate and capital markets group.
McCormick practices corporate and securities law, focusing on domestic and cross-border M&A, private transactions and debt, and equity capital markets. He assists multinational corporations in setting up their operations in Canada and advises domestic start-ups on their incorporation and shareholders’ agreement.

Cozen O’Connor
Jeremy Gellis is now a member of the firm’s white-collar defence and investigations practice group. He will be representing clients in securities regulatory proceedings, enforcement-related litigation, and investigation matters.
Gellis is a former litigation manager with the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC). During his tenure, he oversaw a team of 14 litigators carrying out enforcement actions for fraud, misrepresentation, unregistered trading and advising, illegal sale of securities, insider trading, and market manipulation.
“As a litigator, Jeremy has appeared before securities commissions, all levels of British Columbia courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada,” said Brigeeta Richdale, the firm’s white-collar defence and investigations practice group vice-chair. “He brings our clients critical, first-hand knowledge of how white-collar cases are built and how they can be resolved before they reach the enforcement stage.”

The firm promoted the following articled students to associates:

Farris LLP
Chloe Slessor is now an associate in the firm’s corporate group.
Slessor finished her articling with the firm last month. She earned her law degree from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP
The firm admitted two new partners to its Calgary office:
- Lori Bokenfohr − tax group
- Rick Pawluk − M&A group
Bokenfohr handles complex tax matters in business structuring, corporate reorganizations, executive and employee compensation, pre-sale and divestiture planning, business succession planning, immigration, and trusts and estates.
She also represents clients in cross-border tax compliance matters before the Canada Revenue Agency and Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, Pawluk has extensive expertise in corporate and securities law. His practice focuses on initial public offerings, equity and debt financings, public and private mergers, takeover bids, acquisitions and disposition transactions, and business combinations.
He has acted for clients across the energy, oil and gas, biotechnology, and agribusiness sectors.
“Lori and Rick bring extensive strategic and transactional experience to our tax and M&A teams that will help benefit our clients in a broad range of industries,” said Clarke Barnes, the firm’s regional managing partner in Calgary.
McMillan LLP
The firm welcomed three new associates to its Vancouver office:
- Anika Klassen – business law
- Adam Jones − capital markets and securities
- Kristen Shaw – litigation and dispute resolution
MLT Aikins LLP
Carter Suski and Seth Boulding joined the firm as associates in the Winnipeg office.
Suski specializes in corporate and real estate law. His practice includes reviewing commercial agreements, advising clients on acquisitions, corporate financings, and private offerings, and working on residential real estate files.
Boulding focuses his practice on tax, corporate law, and estate planning and administration. He assists individuals and organizations with their tax planning and regularly advises on effectively structuring business transactions tax-efficiently.
The firm also welcomed Ayana McAdam as an associate in the Edmonton office.
McAdam practises insurance, labour and employment, wills and estates, real estate, and litigation. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked in the education, pharmaceutical, and social development sectors.
Sotos LLP
Ryan McCabe joined the firm as an associate.
McCabe carries on a commercial practice with a particular focus on franchising. He works on all franchise expansion and development aspects, such as preparing franchise contracts and disclosure documents, partnership and shareholder agreements, entity incorporation, and merger and acquisition of franchise systems.
He also advises clients on the viability of trademark registration and enforcement of trademark rights.
