Global law firm Ashurst has expanded its corporate transactions practice with the hire of Yan Yuan as a partner in Shanghai. He joins from Clifford Chance, having worked in its New York and China offices since 2007.

Yuan advises private equity and corporate clients on complex cross-border M&A transactions including minority / growth capital investments, joint ventures and control acquisitions across a wide range of industries, with a geographic focus on China, as well as Southeast Asia, Europe, North & South Americas.

"Yan has an impressive profile and strong cross border and private equity experience in industries such as digital economy and real estate, which aligns with Ashurst's focus,” said Asia head of corporate transactions Josh Cole. “He has strong technical skills and a good commercial sense to provide practical solutions to his clients in significant and complex transactions. Yan is a great addition to the team further expanding our already well-established corporate M&A practice assisting our Peoples Republic of China and other Asian clients investing in Europe, Southeast Asia and other regions."

In China, Ashurst operates a Joint Operation Office with law firm Guantao. It offers a one-stop shop service to both firms' clients combining international expertise with full People’s Republic of China law capacity. Recently, the firm has also hired Jessica Li in Hong Kong to expand its Greater China debt capital market capabilities.

"Yan is a well-respected lawyer who has built a successful practice,” said Jini Lee, regional head of Asia and global co-head of the finance, funds and restructuring division. He understands his clients' needs and is trusted by them.”

Yuan added: "Ashurst has a fantastic global network with a solid Greater China footprint supported by PRC law firm Guantao. It also fosters a cooperative and innovative working culture and has a committed Greater China strategy, which make it the ideal platform from which I can continue building up my practice. I am looking forward to collaborate with colleagues in other jurisdictions and practice areas in order to meet the growing demands of our clients."
