Fourteen law firms made new announcements
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures and other announcements.
Aird & Berlis LLP
The firm announced that Dasha Peregoudova was appointed as the new director of sanctions and outcomes for Abuse-Free Sport − Canada’s new independent system for preventing and addressing sports maltreatment.
In her new role, Peregoudova will defend the interests of safe sport. She will make decisions regarding provisional measures and violations of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS).
Peregoudova is an associate and member of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution, workplace law, and sports, media and entertainment groups. Her practice involves working on various employment and labour matters, such as drafting contracts and policies, grievances and collective bargaining, and employment aspects of civil and commercial disputes.
Bennett Jones LLP
The firm announced that Charlene Hiller was appointed as one of the directors of the BC Ferry Services Board for a two-year term. The board oversees the strategic direction of BC Ferries – a publicly owned company responsible for the delivery of ferry service throughout coastal British Columbia.
Hiller is a Vancouver-based partner specializing in capital projects, construction and infrastructure, procurement, and service delivery. She acts for clients across the transportation, energy, mining, and social infrastructure sectors.
Clark Wilson LLP
The firm welcomed Bo Carter as an associate and member of the insurance group.
Carter has extensive expertise in specialty insurance defence and insurance coverage. She assists clients in directing insurance coverage investigations and monitoring ongoing insurance claims.
She has appeared before the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

Kaylyn Anthony and Siobhan Donovan are now associates in the firm’s St. John’s office.
Anthony is a general law practitioner with a specific interest in labour & employment, administrative law, and insurance litigation. She commenced her career with the firm as a summer student in 2019.
Donovan specializes in a broad range of corporate matters, including incorporations, amalgamations, and purchase and sale agreements. She also addresses estate law concerns, including preparing wills, powers of attorney, and guardianship applications.
DLA Piper (Canada) LLP
Analea Wayne joined the firm as the director of associate lawyer and student development.
Wayne will work alongside service group leads, office managing partners, and student program organizers on the professional development of associate lawyers and recruitment of summer and articling students for all the firm’s offices across Canada.
Wayne practised litigation, including negotiation and trial work, in private practice and as in-house counsel for over a decade. Moreover, she has broad experience in recruitment, professional development, performance management, and continuing education.
She recently served as a senior consultant at a global accounting firm focused on change management, engagement, and behavioural and cultural change.
Farris LLP
Chris Ellett and Mallory Wyant are now associates in the firm’s Vancouver office.
Ellet joined the tax and private wealth groups. His practice includes providing income and commodity tax advice to owner-managed businesses and high-net-worth families and advising on the tax aspects of M&A, financing, and other corporate transactions.
Meanwhile, Wyant joined the advocacy and litigation group. Her practice focuses on estate litigation and family law disputes and arrangements.

The firm welcomed two new litigation associates:

Goodmans LLP
Gillian Olsen joined the firm as a litigation associate.
Olsen previously served as an associate at a multinational law firm in New York. She also worked as a research assistant at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, supportING law professor David Schneiderman’s research on the intersection of constitutional law and international investment law.
McMillan LLP
Hannibal El-Mohtar is now an associate in the firm’s Ottawa office.
El-Mohtar has extensive international trade, commercial litigation, and competition law expertise. He regularly advises insurers on commercial arbitration and D&O liability disputes.
He also helps clients deal with international antitrust cases, cross-border jurisdictional discovery, class actions defence, and international asset tracing and recovery.
MLT Aikins LLP
Chris Nyberg joined the firm as an associate in the Calgary office.
Nyberg’s practice focuses on M&A, corporate finance, and complex commercial transactions. Moreover, he regularly advises applicants, licensees, retailers, brands, service providers, First Nations communities, and adjacent industry members on all aspects of cannabis-related matters.
Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP
The firm welcomed Matthew Burgoyne and Laure Fouin as partners and co-chairs of the digital assets and blockchain group.
Burgoyne routinely advises clients in digital currency law, particularly in forming cryptocurrency exchanges. He also has broad experience in private market financings, M&A, secured and unsecured lending transactions, stock exchange listings, regulatory compliance, and securities issues in the cryptocurrency industry.
Fouin handles matters relating to using blockchain technology, crypto assets, digital tokens, artificial intelligence in financial services, and regulatory and compliance issues involving financial institutions. She helps clients navigate digitization and ESG strategic and regulatory issues.

Pouya Dabiran-Zohoory joined the firm as an associate.
Dabiran-Zohoory is a litigator with experience working on large-scale class actions and aggregate claims. He is also interested in human rights, economics, and international issues.
Before joining the firm, he articled at the Crown Law Office – Civil, where he worked on significant commercial, constitutional, and class action litigation involving the Ontario government.

Koschinsky deals with all aspects of the employment relationship, from pre-employment and hiring to performance management, discipline, and termination. She regularly advises unionized clients on collective bargaining, grievances, and arbitration matters.
She has appeared before human rights tribunals, labour boards, arbitration boards, and all levels of the Alberta and Saskatchewan courts.
The firm also welcomed Jinnie Liu as an associate in the Montreal office’s tax group.
Liu advises on taxation aspects of corporate transactions, such as M&A and corporate reorganizations. She began her career as a corporate tax group member of an international professional services firm.
