Lefebvre is a professor emeritus at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Law
The Université de Montréal Faculty of Law announced that Guy Lefebvre has been reappointed as the Canadian correspondent of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) for a three-year term.
Lefebvre is one of the 16 active correspondents across America and has assumed the role since 2001. He will continue to act as a source of information on national law for the UNIDROIT secretariat, an expert counsel on transnational law matters, and a UNIDROIT informal ambassador.
Founded in 1926, UNIDROIT is an intergovernmental organization that studies the needs and methods for modernizing, harmonizing, and coordinating private international law and formulates uniform law instruments, principles and rules to achieve those objectives. It is comprised of 63 member states worldwide.
Lefebvre is a professor emeritus at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Law. He taught international contracts, transportation, and business law from 1988 to 2021. He was recently awarded the Wenlan Scholar Chair Professorship in International Law by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in China.
He is an honorary researcher at the Centre for Business Law and International Trade at the Université de Montréal. Currently, he serves as a co-director of the Sino-Canadian Research Centre at the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.
For his expertise in international commercial transaction law, Lefebvre has been a visiting professor at several universities, authored numerous books and articles in French, English, Portuguese, and Mandarin, and regularly acts as an expert for international institutions.
He has been involved in several major national and international councils, including the Observatoire de la Francophonie économique, the Inter-American University Organization, the Canadian Bureau for International Education, the Conseil Franco-québécois de coopération universitaire, and the Fondation du Barreau du Québec.
Lefebvre has earned several local and international awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the Canadian Bar Association’s Paul-André-Crépeau Medal and the China University of Political Science and Law’s Medal of Merit. In addition, he received the Lawyer Emeritus (Ad. E.) distinction from the Barreau du Québec.
He obtained his law and Master of Laws degrees from the Université de Montréal. He also earned a Master of Laws in International Business Law from the University College London.
