Four law firms made new announcements
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.
Bennett Jones
The firm has announced opening its Montreal office and expanding its national business law practice. Bennett Jones also has offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, and New York.
"Quebec is full of opportunities, both in established and emerging sectors. We are making a long-term commitment in Montréal and look forward to building strong relationships with the Quebec business community," chairman and CEO Hugh MacKinnon said.
The firm's Montreal team includes partner Pascale Dionne-Bourassa, senior advisor Monique Mercier, and administration director Jacinthe Landry. The Montreal office is located on the 18th floor of the Maison Manuvie building.
Dentons Canada
Morgan Burris has joined the firm as a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution and construction groups in Vancouver. Burris specializes in commercial litigation, construction, Aboriginal law, and entertainment and sports sectors.
"Morgan is an accomplished litigator whose addition to our group strengthens our offering and complements our steadfast commitment to client service excellence in Vancouver and across the country," said Mark Evans, the firm's national Litigation and Dispute Resolution group lead.
Gowling WLG
Gowling WLG has welcomed Mathieu Lévesque as its newest partner. Lévesque has joined the firm's commercial litigation group in Montréal. He is also a member of the firm's financial institutions and services and restructuring and insolvency groups. His practice focused on banking litigation, encompassing defence of class actions, bankruptcy and insolvency, and financial restructuring.
"We're thrilled to have Mathieu join Gowling WLG, and I know his experience working with Canada's leading financial institutions, in particular, is going to be a big asset for our clients," said Pierre Pilote, firm managing partner of Gowling WLG's Montréal office. Allison Kuntz was recently appointed justice of the Alberta Court of King's Bench. She was previously a partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Calgary.
