Bennett Jones, Kushneryk Morgan, Ross Nasseri act in $120-million commercial case

Bennett Jones, Cassels, and Miller Thomson each appeared in three commercial list cases this week. Adair Goldblatt Bieber, Aird & Berlis, Babin Bessner Spry, Blaney McMurtry, BLG, Lerners, and NRF also made multiple appearances.

The week’s most notable commercial list matter was the $120-million case Nobul Technologies Inc. v Reed et al. Bennett Jones LLP associate Shaan Tolani advised plaintiff Nobul Technologies Inc. Kushneryk Morgan LLP partner Susan Kushneryk acted for A. Jacobs and three other defendants. She prosecutes securities fraud and handles capital markets litigation and class actions. The six other defendants seemed to be unrepresented.

Ross Nasseri LLP partner Justin Nasseri advised R. McGee and two other defendants to the counterclaim. He works on commercial, regulatory, and professional liability matters.

Another notable commercial list matter was the $110-million case Heinrich et al v Aird & Berlis LLP. Moldaver Barristers partner Brett Moldaver acted for A. Heinrich and 19 other plaintiffs. Moldaver’s practice areas include corporate and administrative law, civil litigation, class actions, and securities regulation. Lerners LLP partner William Pepall represented defendant Aird & Berlis LLP.

A third notable commercial list matter was the $43.1-million case Actra Performers' Rights Society v Re:Sound et al. Goodmans LLP partner Dan Block advised plaintiff Actra Performers' Rights Society. His work includes corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration. The nine defendants appeared to be unrepresented.

Tolani, who worked on the Nobul case, focuses on corporate and commercial disputes, securities litigation, and financial crime.

Jim Patterson, partner, represented Dynasty Furniture Manufacturing Ltd. and four other respondents in Attorney General of Canada v The Contents of Various Financial Accounts Held with the Toronto-Dominion Bank and T-D Waterhouse (In Rem) et al. He co-heads the firm's fraud law practice group.

Richard Swan, partner, acted for his firm as a respondent in Hazelton Development Corporation v Bennett Jones LLP et al. He co-heads the firm’s commercial litigation practice group and also deals with corporate and public law disputes.
