Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Aird & Berlis LLP

Kazim Agha has joined the firm’s intellectual property group as a partner. Agha is a registered patent agent in Canada and the United States, with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from McGill University. His practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent and industrial design applications in Canada and internationally. He has worked with clients ranging from start-ups to multi-national corporations, focusing on those in the chemical, mechanical and medical technology sectors.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP

BLG has welcomed Kent Howie as senior counsel in the firm’s corporate and capital markets group. Howie has over 20 years of experience as a business law partner at BLG before he ventured into non-legal roles at the highest levels of the Federal Department of Finance at the beginning of the COVID019 pandemic. Howie’s extensive knowledge spans various domains, including corporate and commercial law, corporate finance, government affairs, public policy and accounting.

The firm has welcomed seven new associates:

  • Erik Grobler – commercial and business litigation and insurance

MLT Aikins LLP

MLT Aikins has welcomed Kayla Romanow to the firm’s Regina office. Romanow’s practice encompasses corporate and commercial law, including financial services, mergers and acquisitions and real estate. Romano obtained her law degree from the University of Regina in 2016. She was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2020.

Tory’s LLP

Anjali Navkar has joined the firm as counsel in the tax practice group in Toronto. She has previously articled at Torys and was a tax associate at the firm until 2012. In her new role, Navkar will focus on personal tax planning matters.
