Three law firms made new announcements
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.
Bennett Jones LLP
The firm has announced the appointment of John Mercury as the new executive chair and Dominique Hussey as CEO. They will assume their roles on January 1, 2024.
Mercury practised tax law, mergers and acquisitions for Wall Street firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. He then worked at investment bank Merrill Lynch before moving to Bennett Jones in Calgary in 2006. On the other hand, Hussey spent three years as an intellectual property litigator at Goodwin Procter LLP before joining Bennett Jones in 2005. In 2020, she became the firm’s managing partner in Toronto.
Torkin Manes LLP
The firm has welcomed partner Rachel Goldman Robinson and associate Jennifer Lewis to the firm’s private client services group. Robinson practises estate planning and administration, trusts, tax, preparation of wills, powers of attorney and business succession planning. She has nearly two decades of legal knowledge and experience acting for high-net-worth individuals, executives, family business owners, private businesses, estates, trust companies and family offices.
Lewis practises estate planning and estate administration. She has assisted with probate applications and has advised clients on the roles and responsibilities of executors and trustees during the administration of an estate. She has also advised clients on cross-border estate matters for dual citizens.

WeirFoulds LLP
The firm has welcomed partners Mimi Palmer, Jessica Stansfield, and associate Dena Givari. Palmer has joined the firm’s technology and intellectual property practice and privacy & access to information practice groups. Palmer is a commercial lawyer practising intellectual property and information technology law matters. She is experienced in marketing and advertising, trademarks and copyright, data and brand protection, licensing, privacy compliance and anti-spam laws. Palmer is also a registered trademark agent.
Jessica Stansfield has joined the firm’s commercial and litigation practice group. She is experienced in disputes involving asset tracing, civil frauds and conspiracies, shareholder rights, director and officer liability, consumer banking services, and breach of fiduciary and other employee duties.
Dena Givari has joined the firm as an associate in the municipal planning and land development practice group, representing clients in litigation and expropriation matters. Before joining WeirFoulds, Givari was a lawyer with the Department of Justice at the Trade Law Bureau of the Federal Government.
