Kirkland & Ellis welcomes ESG Expert Rebecca Perlman to London office

Global law firm Kirkland & Ellis has expanded its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) & Impact practice group with the addition of Rebecca Perlman as a partner in their London office.

Perlman has over 12 years of experience advising clients on ESG-related regulation, soft law standards and voluntary compliance frameworks, ESG market disclosure and reporting, and matters relating to accredited organizations such as B Corps. She also helps clients with ESG-related risk management, stakeholder engagement and corporate sustainability strategy. She frequently advises on potential ESG issues in corporate transactions and has extensive experience advising on sustainable and impact investment transactions.

Perlman joins Kirkland from Herbert Smith Freehills, where she led the ESG and sustainable and impact investment initiatives across the UK, US, and EMEA regions. According to the firm, her arrival marks a significant enhancement to Kirkland's ESG capabilities, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the firm's growing practice in London.

Perlman graduated from the University of Oxford with a Bachelor of Arts degree and completed her law conversion in London.

Kirkland’s ESG & Impact practice group leader, Alexandra Farmer, expressed enthusiasm for Perlman's appointment. “Her impressive background paired with her leadership capabilities further strengthen our growing practice in London. We are thrilled to welcome her to Kirkland,” Farmer said.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Perlman actively contributes to the ESG community through various roles. She is a non-executive director of the Impact Investing Institute and The Big Issue CL CIC. She is involved with the City of London Law Society’s ESG Committee and the Global Impact Investment Network's Policy Innovation Group. Perlman is also the lead legal expert for the CFA UK’s Impact & Investing Panel.

“Kirkland’s dedicated ESG practice group has ambition, scale and expertise that is unmatched in the legal industry,” Perlman said. “I look forward to joining the Kirkland team to serve an impressive and diverse client base.”
