Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.
DLA Piper
DLA Piper has welcomed Stephen Wortley as a partner in the firm’s cross-border capital markets practice. He will be based in both Vancouver and New York. Wortley’s experience includes local, national, and international securities offerings, TSX and TSX Venture Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange listings, and Chinese outbound mergers and acquisitions transactions into Canada.
“Stephen possesses a deep knowledge of navigating complex cross-border M&A deals in the Chinese market, and he will have an immediate impact on guiding our clients through difficult transactions spanning the globe,” said Robert Seidel, K.C., Canada managing partner.
Harper Grey LLP
Rachel Wood has joined Harper Grey as an associate in the firm’s health law, professional regulation and white-collar crime groups. Wood is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer, having appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP
The firm has announced that Renée Vinett will be serving as co-managing partner together with Paul Miller. Vinett has a lawyer and a registered nurse who has conducted numerous trials and hearings before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Licence Appeal Tribunal.
Loopstra Nixon LLP
Jenna Morley has joined the firm as a partner. She specializes in municipal, land use planning, and development.
McLennan Ross LLP
McLennan Ross has welcomed Elise Cartier to the firm's labour and employment group in Calgary. Cartier is knowledgeable and skilled in commercial litigation, civil litigation, tort law, and product liability.
McMillan LLP
The firm has welcomed new counsel, Peter Burn, to its office in Ottawa. Burn specializes in international trade and government and public policy.
Robins Appleby LLP
The firm has announced the promotion of Rachel Puma from associate to partner. Puma is a lawyer with the firm’s commercial real estate and development group. She began her legal career as a summer student at Robins Appleby before joining as an associate in 2019. She has advised clients on all primary commercial real estate law areas, including acquisitions, dispositions, development, financing, and leasing.
